Love can inspire surprising actions. For Taylor Swift, it led her to appear on the sports podcast New Heights, co-hosted by her fiancé, Travis Kelce. Meanwhile, Donald Trump appeared to overlook his previous disdain for Swift when he commented on the couple’s engagement, expressing wishes for their happiness.
During a cabinet meeting, Trump remarked on Kelce, stating, “I think he’s a great player, I think he’s a great guy.” However, his earlier criticisms of Swift, which included referring to her as a “woke singer” and declaring she was “NO LONGER HOT” just weeks prior, seemed to fade from his recollection. He added, “And I think that she’s a terrific person. So I wish them a lot of luck.”
The estrangement between Trump and Swift dates back to 2018, when she publicly supported Democratic Senate candidate Phil Bredesen over Republican Marsha Blackburn in Tennessee. At that time, Trump commented, “I’m sure Taylor Swift knows nothing. I like Taylor’s music about 25 percent less now, OK?”
While Kelce has kept his public commentary on Trump to a minimum, he did express excitement about the possibility of the president attending the Super Bowl in February, saying, “That’s awesome. It’s a great honor. I think you know, no matter who the president is, I know I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, you know, and having the president there — it’s the best country in the world — and that’s pretty cool.”
In September, Trump indicated a preference for Brittany Mahomes, wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, over Swift, implying that he might welcome her to speak positively about pro-MAGA posts. This came from the same individual who believed his statement “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT” on Truth Social would sway public opinion against the pop superstar. He questioned, “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’” but it appears few, if anyone, took note, especially not Kelce.
After Swift appeared on the New Heights podcast, Kelce praised her intellect, saying she was “so hot when she says big words.” When announcing their engagement, they chose the song “So High School” by The Tortured Poets Department as the backdrop, accompanying their post, which featured the humorous caption, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
