Fox News Anchor’s Health Update

John Roberts, a 68-year-old anchor for Fox News, announced he will be temporarily absent from his weekday afternoon role due to a diagnosis of malaria. In a recent post on X, he revealed the severity of his condition and noted he is currently receiving treatment in a hospital.

“I somehow came down with a severe case of malaria,” he wrote. “I can honestly say that I am the only person in the hospital with malaria. In fact, one of my doctors said I’m the first case he has ever seen.”

Roberts expressed gratitude to fellow colleague Trace Gallagher, who has stepped in to co-anchor America Reports alongside Sandra Smith, which airs at 1 p.m. on weekdays. He also thanked the medical staff at Inova Health, a Virginia-based healthcare provider.

The news of Roberts’ illness surprised many of his followers on X, leading to an outpouring of well-wishes.

  • “Recover quickly and fully!! 🙏🏼” wrote former Superman actor Dean Cain.

  • “Beth and I are praying for a swift recovery!!” commented North Carolina Rep. Mark Harris.

  • “Whoa! Feel better soon, John,” added Fox Chief Washington Correspondent Mike Emanuel.

Understanding Malaria in the U.S.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), malaria was eradicated in the United States in 1951. Nonetheless, the country still reports approximately 2,000 cases annually, with an average of seven deaths each year from 2007 to 2022. Most malaria cases in the U.S. arise from travelers visiting regions where the disease is endemic, making locally-acquired malaria extremely rare.
