by September 2, 2025

Osaka’s Commanding Victory

In a much-anticipated clash of former US Open champions, Naomi Osaka demonstrated the skills that propelled her to the pinnacle of tennis. On September 1, 2025, she secured a decisive 6-3, 6-2 victory against Coco Gauff in the fourth round at Flushing Meadows.

Match Highlights

Osaka quickly established dominance in the match, breaking Gauff in the first game and maintaining her lead throughout. She broke Gauff’s serve once more to clinch the opening set and did not face a single break point during the entire match.

“I was super locked-in,” Osaka remarked in her post-match on-court interview. “I felt like everyone wanted to watch a really great match and I hope that’s what you got.”

Despite showing improvement in her serve since the start of the tournament, Gauff struggled with 33 unforced errors, managing only eight winners.

Looking Ahead

With this victory, Osaka moves on to the quarterfinals, where she will face the winner between Karolina Muchova and Marta Kostyuk. This marks her first appearance in the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament since she won the Australian Open in 2021.

Emotional Reflections

After her match, Osaka expressed her emotions to the crowd, saying, “I mean, I’m a little sensitive and I don’t want to cry. Honestly, I have so much fun out here. I was telling everyone, literally, I was out here in the stands two months after giving birth to my daughter and I was watching Coco. I just really wanted an opportunity to come out here and play. This is my favorite court in the world and it means so much to be back here.”

Osaka had previously taken time away from the sport for mental health breaks and to welcome her daughter, Shai, in 2023.
