The lifeless body of 32-year-old social media influencer Esmeralda Ferrer Garibay was discovered wrapped in plastic, alongside three deceased family members, inside a pickup truck in Mexico.
On August 22, prosecutors revealed that the remains were located in a mechanics shop in Guadalajara. The victims were identified as Garibay, her 36-year-old husband, and their two children, aged 13 and 7, as reported by Univision.
Authorities initially detained three men employed at the garage, but they were released due to insufficient evidence. Investigators believe that the family was murdered at the site where their bodies were found.
Garibay had recently shared a TikTok video with her nearly 44,000 followers, cheerfully unwrapping a red Jeep, which appeared to be a gift. Earlier posts had showcased her in new outfits while enjoying visits to beaches, resorts, and nightclubs.
According to Mexican TV station Meganoticias Guadalajara, the bodies of Garibay and her family were discovered inside a gray 2025 Ford Ranger pickup truck. Prosecutors have indicated that Garibay’s husband, known for his involvement in car trading and tomato production, may have been the intended target of the suspected perpetrator.
In a previous social media post, Garibay had humorously remarked, “I don’t know why my husband won’t let me have a boyfriend” who deals drugs and buys her expensive things.
