Upcoming Foldable Devices from Apple

Apple is set to introduce its first foldable iPhone in 2026, with plans for a foldable iPad to follow in 2028, according to renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Multiple sources have confirmed that the foldable iPhone will be part of the iPhone 18 series. The timeline for the larger foldable device, however, remains more uncertain.

Initial Speculations

Earlier reports suggested that a foldable iPad or MacBook could be launched ahead of the iPhone, with speculated release dates ranging from 2026 to 2028. The focus has shifted towards a foldable iPad, which might feature a screen size between 18 and 20 inches when opened, while having a more compact form when closed.

Materials and Collaboration

Kuo revealed that Apple will utilize ultra-thin cover glass for both the foldable iPhone and iPad, a detail previously reported. Corning is expected to supply this glass, collaborating with General Interface Solutions (GIS) for cutting, corner treatments, inspection, packaging, and logistics.

Sales Projections

Kuo anticipates that Apple could sell between 8 to 10 million foldable iPhones in 2026, with sales potentially increasing to 25 million in 2027. Conversely, the foldable iPad is expected to have lower sales, as its price is predicted to be ‘considerably higher’ than that of the foldable iPhone.
