Emerging Details on Sam Rivers’ Passing
Recent information has come to light concerning the death of Limp Bizkit bassist and co-founder, Sam Rivers, who passed away last weekend. According to TMZ, authorities in St. Johns County, Florida, responded to a call on Saturday, October 18, regarding a “nonresponsive person in cardiac arrest.” While the St. Johns County Sheriff’s office has not yet determined a cause of death, officers classified the incident as an “attended death.”
Understanding Attended Death Classifications
This classification typically indicates that a licensed healthcare professional was present and that the deceased had been suffering from a significant or terminal illness, with death anticipated within weeks or months.
Band members and fans are speculating that Rivers may have been battling cancer, particularly after he was seen wearing a shirt emblazoned with the phrase “fuck cancer” during the tour. DJ Lethal, a bandmate, shared a post reflecting on Rivers’ struggle in the wake of his passing.
The band officially announced the death of the 48-year-old musician on October 18 in a heartfelt statement. Limp Bizkit’s lead vocalist, Fred Durst, later released an emotional video tribute, emphasizing Rivers’ essential role within the band. Rivers had previously faced health challenges, including a liver transplant several years ago due to struggles with addiction.
Continuing the Tour
Despite this tragedy, Limp Bizkit plans to press on with their scheduled performances. A promoter for the band confirmed that their show on November 29 at the Explanada del Estadio Banorte in Mexico City will proceed as planned. The promoter released the following statement on October 20:
“We deeply regret the passing of Sam Rivers, founding bassist of Limp Bizkit, whose talent and legacy marked generations and will continue to resonate in every note of his music. In such a significant moment for the band and its fans, Limp Bizkit has decided to continue with its performance on November 29 at the Explanada Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, as part of its ‘Gringo Papi Tour‘ 2025. That night, every riff and every scream of the crowd will resonate in honor of the great legacy Sam offered to Nu-Metal, because his energy will never cease. See you soon!”
