Ed Kelce, the father of NFL star Travis Kelce, has disclosed details regarding his son’s recent engagement to pop icon Taylor Swift, which occurred approximately two weeks ago. The couple confirmed their engagement through a joint Instagram post adorned with affectionate photos.
The Proposal
During an interview with News 5 Cleveland on Tuesday, Ed shared that the proposal took place in a garden located in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. He noted, “He was going to put it off till this week. I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event.” Ed advised Travis that the location of the proposal was less important than the moment itself, saying, “you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event … when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.”
Planning and Timing
Ed revealed that Travis had been planning the proposal for several months and had initially anticipated asking Taylor during the previous NFL season. However, the moment came in August, significant for Swift fans.
“He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘Let’s go out and have a glass of wine,’ … they got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful,”
Ed recounted. He added that the couple immediately FaceTimed him, their mother, and Taylor’s family to share their joyful news.
A Call from the Field
Ed described receiving the call about the engagement while he was attending a Philadelphia Eagles practice, making the moment even more special. Since late summer 2023, Travis and Taylor have been dating. While they tend to keep their relationship private, both often attend each other’s events, exemplifying their support—whether it’s Taylor at Travis’ Kansas City Chiefs games or Travis cheering her on during her Eras Tour.
