Introduction to Rokid Glasses
While Meta is often seen as a leading name in the smart glasses arena, the company faces competition from innovative brands like Rokid. Offering a more sophisticated option, Rokid has introduced its latest smart glasses, dubbed Rokid Glasses, which feature advanced technological capabilities.
Key Features
Display Technology
The Rokid Glasses come equipped with a monochrome display for each eye, boasting a remarkable maximum brightness of 1,500 nits. These green-colored micro LED screens support various applications, including navigation aids and a built-in “teleprompter” that can display scrolling text for presentations. This new feature may revolutionize how users engage with their content.
Lightweight Design
Lauded for their lightweight design, the Rokid Glasses weigh just 49 grams, thanks to their magnesium-aluminum alloy frame, which makes them comparable to Meta’s Ray-Bans. Meta’s offerings weigh between 48 to 51 grams but lack any integrated display.
Camera and Audio Capabilities
Rokid has also integrated a 12-megapixel camera into the glasses, capable of recording video at 60 frames per second. Unlike Meta’s Ray-Bans, Rokid allows users to take photos and videos in multiple aspect ratios, including 3:4, 9:16, and 4:3. This flexibility enhances the user experience.
In addition to the camera, the Rokid Glasses feature built-in speakers for open audio listening and a four-microphone array for voice calls and interacting with voice assistants such as ChatGPT. These smart glasses incorporate AI functionalities similar to those found in Meta’s models, including object recognition, real-time translation, and AI-based transcription services.
Battery Life and Pricing
The battery life of the Rokid Glasses remains a point of curiosity, as they contain a 210mAh battery. While this appears adequate, the demand for power may escalate with the use of the display, music playback, and voice assistant functions. Fortunately, the glasses come with fast charging capabilities for convenient recharging.
Priced higher than Meta’s Ray-Bans, Rokid Glasses are set to launch with a starting price of $499 during a forthcoming Kickstarter campaign, with a projected retail price of $599. Details on the official launch date remain undisclosed, pending the success of the crowdfunding initiative.
