TSMC’s Waiver Revocation

The United States has revoked the authorization for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) to ship crucial equipment to its primary chip production facility in China. This decision may limit the company’s production operations at its older-generation site in Nanjing.

American officials recently communicated their choice to terminate TSMC’s validated end user (VEU) status for this location. This move parallels similar actions taken against VEU designations for Chinese facilities operated by Samsung Electronics Co. and SK Hynix Inc.

The waivers allowing these shipments are scheduled to lapse in approximately four months.
