As the news of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement captures public attention, reactions continue to emerge, including one from President Donald Trump, who has been critical of Swift in the past.
During a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, August 26, a reporter inquired about Trump’s thoughts on the couple’s announcement. Trump replied, “Well, I wish them a lot of luck. I think he’s a great player, I think he’s a great guy, and she’s a terrific person, so I wish them a lot of luck.”

Swift and Kelce shared their engagement news through a joint post on Instagram, featuring images of the couple in a beautiful garden, accompanied by a caption that read, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
Trump’s Past Comments
This latest comment from Trump contrasts sharply with his previous remarks about Swift, whom he has ridiculed on multiple occasions. Notably, after Swift endorsed Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential race, Trump responded on his Truth Social account, stating, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”
In a more recent instance, Trump compared Swift unfavorably to actress Sydney Sweeney, who starred in a controversial American Eagle advertisement. He highlighted Sweeney’s popularity, stating, “Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there… Just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift. Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can’t stand her (HATE!). She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT.”
Swift’s Criticism of Trump
Swift has not held back in her criticisms of Trump either. During a 2019 interview with The Guardian, she referred to his presidency as an “autocracy.” In 2020, she expressed her intention to vote him out in November via a post on X, condemning his handling of the George Floyd protests and stating, “After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence?”
