Announcement of the Award

On Monday, President Trump declared that he will present Rudy Giuliani with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian accolade in the United States.

“As President of the United States of America, I am pleased to announce that Rudy Giuliani, the greatest Mayor in the history of New York City, and an equally great American Patriot, will receive THE PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM, our Country’s highest civilian honor,” Mr. Trump shared in a social media post. “Details as to time and place to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

Giuliani’s Recent Health Issues

This announcement comes shortly after Giuliani was hospitalized due to multiple broken bones sustained in a car accident in New Hampshire. According to his spokesperson, he suffered fractured thoracic vertebrae, numerous lacerations and contusions, along with injuries to his left arm and lower leg as a result of being struck from behind at high speed.

Support from Giuliani’s Spokesperson

“There is no American more deserving of this honor,” Giuliani’s spokesperson Ted Goodman remarked in a social media statement. “Mayor Rudy Giuliani took down the Mafia, saved New York City, comforted the nation following 9/11, and served in countless other ways to improve the lives of others. Thank you, President Trump, for honoring his life and legacy.”

Giuliani’s Legacy

At 81 years old, Giuliani gained prominence during the 1980s and 1990s as a prosecutor before becoming mayor. He earned the title “America’s mayor” for his leadership in New York following the September 11 attacks in 2001.

After completing two mayoral terms, he ran for president in 2008 but withdrew during the Republican primary after finishing third in Florida. Subsequently, Giuliani became a close advisor to President Trump, promoting conspiracy theories and unsubstantiated claims regarding the integrity of the 2020 presidential election.

Controversies Surrounding Giuliani

Giuliani has faced significant legal challenges, including being disbarred in both New York and Washington, D.C. He also filed for bankruptcy after being deemed liable for $148 million due to false statements made about Georgia election workers.
