Takeshi Niinami, known for his candid approach towards Japan’s corporate culture, has stepped down as the chief executive officer of Suntory Holdings Inc. This decision comes after police conducted a search of his residence in relation to an investigation involving illegal drugs.
Police Investigation Details
At a hurriedly convened press conference in Tokyo on Tuesday, Suntory President Nobuhiro Torii revealed that Niinami, aged 66, is under scrutiny for allegedly violating laws concerning the purchase of a cannabis-containing supplement.
According to a report by Tokyo Shimbun, Niinami has asserted his innocence regarding these allegations. When approached for comments by Bloomberg, he chose not to elaborate further.
